How to Connect Sage Intacct to Followup CRM

In this article, you'll learn how to create a Web Services user and FollowUp Role in Sage Intacct, add Followup’s Sender ID, connect in Followup CRM, and complete field mapping with your specialist.

 📘 Overview

Followup CRM can sync projects, companies (customers), and contacts with Sage Intacct. After you connect, your team can push and pull data according to the field mappings your Followup specialist configures with you.

Your specialist will tell you which connection path you are using:

Path What you’ll do
Standard Set up a Web Services user, FollowUp Role, and Sender ID in Sage, then connect in Followup with those credentials
Native Click Connect in Followup and sign in on the Sage login screen — no Web Services / Sender ID setup for connect

This article covers:

  • 🧭 Confirming your connection path
  • 👤 Standard setup in Sage (when required)
  • 🔗 Connecting in Followup (standard or Native)
  • 🗺️ Field mapping on the integration call
  • ❓ Common questions

You’ll need admin access in Sage Intacct for standard setup. Your Followup Onboarding Specialist joins you for the connection and mapping call.

📦 Before you start

Your Followup team may send:

  • This setup guide
  • Sage Intacct Configuration Guide for FollowUp Integration (PDF)
  • Sage Intacct Field Guide CS – Fillable (PDF) for mapping

If you are on the standard path: complete the Sage Steps (1–5) before the call when possible.
If you are on Native: you can skip those Sage Web Services / Sender ID steps and go straight to connect on the call.

🧭 Step 0: Confirm your path with Followup

Before you start setup, confirm with your Followup specialist:

  • Standard → follow Steps 1–5, then Step 6a
  • Native → skip to Step 6b

Do not mix the two paths.

Standard path — Sage setup

Skip Steps 1–5 if your specialist said you are on Native.

👤 Step 1: Create a Web Services user

  1. Log into Sage Intacct.
  2. Go to Applications → Company → Admin → Web Services Users.
  3. Create a new user:
    • User Type: Business
    • Admin Privileges: Full
    • Username: something unique (for example, followup-crm)
  4. Set a strong password and store it securely — you’ll enter this in Followup later.
  5. Save.

🛡️ Step 2: Create the FollowUp Role

  1. Go to Company → Admin → Roles → Add New Role.
  2. Name it FollowUp Role.
  3. Enable access for:
    • Company
    • Accounts Receivable
    • Projects

✅ Step 3: Set role permissions

Under FollowUp Role, turn on:

Area Permissions
Company View, Add, Edit
Accounts Receivable View, Add, Edit
Projects View, Add, Edit

Save at each level until you’re back on the main Roles screen.

🔗 Step 4: Assign the role to the Web Services user

  1. Go to Company → Web Services Users.
  2. Edit the user from Step 1.
  3. Under Roles Information, assign FollowUp Role.
  4. Save.

🔑 Step 5: Add the Sender ID

  1. Go to Company → Setup → Company → Security tab → Edit.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter Sender ID: followupcrmMPP
    • You do not need to create your own Sender ID. Followup provides this.
  4. Enter the Sender Password from your Followup Onboarding Specialist (sent securely — not in this article).
  5. Save and close.

Connect in Followup CRM

Usually done with your Followup specialist on the integration call.

🧾 Step 6a: Standard — Connect with credentials

  1. In Followup, go to Company Settings → ERP Integration.
  2. Choose Sage Intacct → Connect.
  3. Enter:
Field What to enter
Company ID Your Sage Intacct Company ID
Sender ID followupcrmMPP
Sender Password From your Followup specialist
User ID Web Services username from Step 1
Password Password you set for that user
  1. Submit to test the connection.

💡 If it fails, re-check Steps 1–5, then try again with your specialist.

🧾 Step 6b: Native — Connect with Sage login

Use this only if your specialist confirmed Sage Intacct Native.

  1. In Followup, go to Company Settings → ERP Integration.
  2. Choose Sage Intacct (Native) → Connect.
  3. On the Sage login screen, sign in with your Sage Intacct credentials.
  4. After login, you’ll return to Followup with the connection active.
  5. Continue to field mapping with your specialist.

💡 Native connect does not use the Web Services user or Sender ID form from Steps 1–5.

🗺️ Step 7: Field mapping

On the call (or right after connect):

  1. Use the Sage Intacct Field Guide CS – Fillable PDF.
  2. Map standard project, customer, and contact fields.
  3. Call out custom or non-standard fields for your specialist.
  4. Review required fields and sync settings as shown in Followup.
  5. Run a test push or pull on a sample record when possible.

Once mapping is saved, day-to-day sync follows those directions (two-way, push-only, or pull-only per field).

🧩 What syncs
Followup CRM Sage Intacct
Projects Projects
Companies Customers
Contacts Customer contacts
Residential contacts Customers

Additional modules (for example change orders) depend on your Sage setup and what Followup enables for your account.

❓ FAQ

Which path should I use — standard or Native?
Your Followup specialist will tell you. Don’t guess — the connect screens are different.

Do I need admin rights in Sage?
Yes for the standard Web Services / role / Sender ID setup. For Native, you need a Sage login that can authorize the connection.

Do I need my own Sender ID?
Only on the standard path — use followupcrmMPP and the Sender Password from Followup. Native connect does not use Sender ID.

Can every Followup user log into Sage for the integration?
No. After connect, your team works in Followup as usual. Sync uses the connected Sage integration, not each user’s personal Sage login for every action.

Is sync instant for every change?
Updates sync when a push, pull, or scheduled sync runs — not necessarily on every keystroke.

Who do I contact for help?
Your Followup CRM Onboarding Specialist or Followup Support.

  • 🔐 On the standard path, store the Web Services password securely.
  • 🔑 On the standard path, use Sender ID followupcrmMPP only.
  • 🗺️ Bring custom field needs to the mapping call using the fillable field guide.
  • 🧪 Test with a sample project/customer after mapping when possible.
