How to Create a Combo Chart and Multi-Series Combo Chart in Custom Reports

In this article, we will show off how combo charts let you layer multiple chart types—like bar charts, line graphs, and symbol graphs—into a single view to visualize multiple data sets at once.

Please take a look at the below step-by-step guide for Record Details Custom Fields.

Combo charts allow you to layer multiple chart types—such as bar charts, line graphs, and symbol graphs—into a single view, helping you visualize multiple data sets at once. Follow these steps to create and customize both a combo chart and a multi-series combo chart in your custom report.

Step 1: Add a Combo Chart

  1. Navigate to the Custom Reports tab.
  2. Select Add Chart and choose either the Combo Chart or Multi-Series Combo Chart.
    • We'll start with the Combo Chart for this example.

Step 2: Select Your Data Set

  1. Choose the data set you want to visualize from the options provided.
  2. Select a category (e.g., Office) as your X-axis to group data.
  3. For the Y-axis, add your first value (e.g., Base Bid).

Step 3: Add Multiple Values

  1. You can now layer additional values. For example, add Gross Margin and Labor Hours to the Y-axis.
  2. Each value will be represented by a different chart type (e.g., bars, lines, symbols), and a legend will appear to distinguish between them.

Step 4: Customize Your Chart

  1. Adjust the style:
    • Stacked: Values are layered on top of each other for simplicity.
    • Side-by-Side: Values are displayed next to each other for clearer comparison.
  2. You can customize the color scheme and styling to improve clarity or aesthetics.

Step 5: Multi-Series Combo Chart

The Multi-Series Combo Chart allows you to combine more complex visualizations:

  1. Select multiple chart types and combine them on the same chart.
  2. For example, you can have bar charts for Gross Margins and line graphs for Labor Hours, all within the same office category.
  3. The Y-axis will show values like gross margin and labor hours, while the X-axis will show categories like offices.
  4. Legends will be displayed to indicate which value each chart represents.

Step 6: Save and Add to Canvas

  1. Once you’re happy with the layout and chart type, click Save to add the chart to your report.
  2. You can continue adding more charts to the canvas as needed.

Conclusion

The Combo Chart and Multi-Series Combo Chart allow you to layer multiple data sets and chart types for a comprehensive view of your metrics. This enables you to see all key values in one place, making it easier to spot trends and relationships across your data.
